Modern Day Highlands Ranch

Highlands Ranch is a 22,000-acre master-planned community founded in 1981. The community has a population of 96,000 people and is located 12 miles south of Denver in Douglas County. The modern day Highlands Ranch offers a wonderful quality of life and opportunities for an active lifestyle through the many parks, walking/hiking trails, state of the art recreation centers, restaurants, and so much more! It’s no surprise that Highlands Ranch has received national recognition for its great quality of life and amenities, in the top places to raise a family in Colorado, one of the top places to move in the nation, etc. 

 

The Highlands Ranch Metro District owns and maintains an impressive network of outdoor recreation amenities including:

  • 26 parks & 2,500 acres of natural open space areas (more details below along with a map)

  • 70 miles of trails that link Highlands Ranch neighborhoods, connect residents to one another, and provide a great way to exercise and enjoy the natural beauty of Colorado.

PARKS & OPEN SPACE FEATURES

Highlands Ranch is home to active people and a diverse wildlife population. Eighty-five percent of homes in Highlands Ranch are located within one-quarter mile of a park, open space area or trail. The community has approximately 25 acres of park land per one thousand residents. In addition, our parks and open space features:

  • 2 skate parks: Redstone Skate Park (Town Center Drive near S Santa Fe Drive) and The Tanks Park (S. Broadway & Wildcat Preserve Pkwy). Lessons & Camps are also offered!

  • 1 inline hockey rink: Located at The Tanks Park, 10371 S. Broadway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.

  • 4 dog parks: Hound Hill at Highland Heritage Park (9651 S. Quebec St.), Digger’s at Dad Clark Park (3385 Astorbrook Circle), Fido’s Field at Foothills Park (1042 Riddlewood Rd.), & Rover’s Run at Redstone Park (3280 Redstone Park Circle).

  • 4 outdoor pickleball courts: All 4 located at The Tanks Park, 10371 S. Broadway, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.

  • 8 lighted tennis courts: All of them located at the Lebsack Tennis Center & Redstone Park, which is at 9325 Foothills Canyon Blvd. Lessons & teams offered here too!

  • 3 lighted ball fields: Located at Redstone Park, 3280 Redstone Park Circle, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.

  • 3 historic parks: Fly’n B Park, Historic Park and Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area

  • 3 community gardens: The Corn Cob at Cheese Ranch Historic & Natural Area (32 garden plots), The Potato Patch at Dad Clark Park (20 garden plots), The Farmer’s Field at Foothills Park (46 garden plots).

  • 1 equestrian area: Spring Gulch Equestrian Area is a 105-acre facility used since 1978 for equestrian jumping, located at 9490 N. US Hwy. 85, Highlands Ranch, CO 80129.

RECREATION CENTERS

Highlands Ranch is also home to four state-of-the-art recreational centers maintained and operated by the Highlands Ranch Community Association. Each homeowner pays monthly dues to help with paying for these recreation centers along with other common expense items. The recreation centers have over 329,000 square feet of work out facilities, meeting rooms, event and classroom space, pools, running tracks, basketball and sports courts, all for use by the members. 

All four centers have a plethora of amenities in common, but each of them also have unique items, which are described in more detail below! 

Northridge Recreation Center

  • About: This one was the very first Recreation Center to open, which was in 1982 and then completed a full renovation and expansion to 62,600 feet in 2018. Northridge Recreation Center is home to the following features:

  • Features: Covered tennis pavilion (6 indoor & 5 outdoor courts), ten racquetball courts, aqua climbing wall, a diving well, martial arts, hot yoga studios, golf simulator, ping pong tables, running track, indoor & outdoor swimming pools, weight & cardio area, and more!

Southridge Recreation Center

  • About: Sourthridge is the newest of the recreation centers and offers the following features:

  • Features: Beautiful Wildcat Mountain Auditorium with high-tech lighting and sound, pottery studio, summer camps, fitness/dance studio, gyms, meeting rooms, running track, senior lounge, indoor & outdoor swimming pools (water play set, lazy river, etc.), 5 outdoor tennis courts, weight & cardio area, and more!

Eastridge Recreation Center

9568 S University Blvd, Highlands Ranch, CO 80126

  • About: Eastridge originally opened in 1997 but did a remodel to the cardio & weight equipment in 2013. It also houses the Administrative Offices for all of the Highlands Ranch Community Association. Eastridge provides the following features:

  • Features: Climbing wall, fitness/dance studio, gyms, pre-school, meeting rooms for many community events, running track, sand volleyball courts, steam room, indoor & outdoor swimming pools, weight & cardio area, and more!

Westridge Recreation Center

  • About: Westridge, among the others, has a little something for everyone including the following features:

  • Features: Indoor lacrosse/soccer turf field with dasher boards, spin cycle studio, 3 outdoor tennis courts and 5 batting cages, fitness/dance studio, meeting rooms, running track, indoor & outdoor (zero depth entry 'whale' pool excellent for kids) swimming pools, tiny tees ball park, and tons more!
